One of the thirteen historic counties of Wales, Glamorgan is situated in the south of the country. In the north the county is bounded by Brecknockshire and in the south by Bristol Channel. In the east it is bounded by Monmouthshire and in west by Carmarthenshire and Carmarthen Bay.
The total area is 2,100 square kilometres and the population of the county is 1,220,000 and this makes it the most populous county in Wales. The county is the mostly an industrialised one and at one point of time it has many coal mines. But these days service sector is contributing more to the economy of the county and very few coal mines are left.
The low land area of the county mostly comprises farmlands and small villages and covers almost all the southern part of the county.
