Where Is The Source Of The River Nile?

Answer Question

5 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The two tributaries are the White Nile and the Blue Nile.  The White Nile originates in Rwanda, Africa, and the Blue Nile originates in Ethiopia.  The two meet in Sudan to form one river simply called the Nile, and it continues to flow through Egypt.  There is a picture attached to this answer if you would like to look at the map showing the Nile.

The source of the Nile is said to be one of the most debated and controversial topics till date. The Nile has two tributaries; the White Nile and the Blue Nile.  The White Nile has its source in the great Lakes region which lies in central Africa (the most distant source is said to be in southern Rwanda.) The Blue Nile on the other hand is believed to start in Ethiopia in the Lake Tana and flows through Uganda and Sudan. Both the tributaries meet in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. The Nile ends in the Mediterranean Sea after forming a rather large delta. The river gets its name from the Greek word 'Neilos' which means river valley. The Egyptians referred to it as 'iteru' which means 'big river'.

Nile is the longest river of the world in Africa. It has two major sources; White Nile and Blue Nile. White Nile is the longer one while the Blue Nile is the source of most of Nile's water.

The White Nile rises in the lakes of Africa and the Blue Nile starts at lake Tana in Ethiopia flowing into Sudan from the southeast.
