How Do I Remove A Popcorn Ceiling?

If it's not made with asbestos, you probably can.  But it may be easier, and less mess to remove the drywall with the popcorn still attached and then put up new drywall panels.  See the answers to similar question by using the search function.  

If it is asbestos laden, you need to use haz-mat suits and proper disposal techniques.  There are test kits to determine asbestos content available at your hardware stores and online, see;

I removed it in our bathroom by spraying it with warm water and scraping it off. It is messy, but cheap and easy compared to replacing drywall. I would wear a face mask while doing it and goggles to protect your eyes.  

  Purchase an insect sprayer from any supply store that carries insecticides.
Fill it with water and spray the popcorn texture with it. Let it set for a few minutes, then use a dull edged scraper. You can purchase a long handled scraper from most home supply stores.
   Hopefully, your popcorn texture has been sprayed/painted with flat paint. It will come off much easier.
  If it has been painted with a semi-gloss, it will be a bit more difficult to remove.
Recommend that you lay plastic sheeting on the floor before scraping, because it is a much easier clean-up.

It basically needs scraped, and then sanded to make it smooth again. Be careful not to cut the sheetrock under it. Hope this helps, good luck to you.
