You can give them live mice/rats but there is a chance the rodent could give your snake a nasty bite. I have always used dead ones.

You can feed your ball python either live rat or mouse. It depends on the size of the snake and size of the rodent. But i recomend yoyu keep a close eye on your snake during feeding to make sure that the mouse or rat doesnt hurt your snake. Also it might take some time for your snake to transition from dead prey to live. It may not eat the live prey at all because of timidity or having been bitten in the past. Ball pythons are very shy snakes and it would be trammatic for your snake to have been bitten. All you really can do is try. My ball python eats only live mice or rats he wont eat them if they are already dead. I would take your snake in a pet shope and ask them what size of rodent would be best.  If the rodent is too big your snake wont be able to digest it and would kill your snake. Your best bet it to take the snake into the shope. They would know what size is best and either a rat or mouse waould be best... Its what i do.>Best of luck and enjoy your pet>
