What Are The Arguments In Favour Of Fergus O’Connor As A Great Help To The Chartist Movement?

Fergus O'Connor's supporters described him as a "broad figure of great intellectual force" He kept the movement together between 1842 and 1847 in particular. He was the main inspiration of the movement who was devoted to gaining suffrage throughout his life. He was also a competent MP, they argued.

His newspaper, the Northern Star, was the main voice of the Chartist movement. He went to gaol for 18 months as a consequence of his life-long support of the cause. They called these small colonies "O'Connorvilles".
