What Is A Radio Base Station?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A radio base station constitutes of either a macrocell, microcell or picocell site. This site has a number of transmitters and receivers in a cabin. These gadgets are connected to antennas by means of feeders.
Cities or towns may have professional two-way radio systems to cater to different uses.  In this kind of two-way radio systems, the contact with a dispatch fleet is maintained with the help of the base station.

The dispatch fleet usually is equipped with hand-held or mobile radios. They may also carry paging receivers. The base station handles one end of the communications and conveys messages to the other end which may be the dispatch of ambulance, fire engines, or taxicabs.

Generally a single channel could be sufficient for a radio base station for lightly used stations. However, if the station is heavily used, a multi-channel unit may become a necessity and in this case, an additional base station is installed for each channel.
