    How Do You Take Notes?

Taking notes to your advantage would depend up on a number of factors such as your writing speed, the lecturer's pace and how much of the content is required to be noted down.

You need to decide on what exactly it is that you want to retain and work from there. Concentrate on taking down information which you find is new to you. Jot down relevant points and evolve your own symbols and own abbreviations. You might need to focus on a few words and phrases; then later flesh out the information.

Another tip would be to check your notes right from the start. See how much of the matter is from your textbooks or other material and how much is the lecturer's own input. If you find that most of what the lecturer is saying is already in your material it would be best to simply mark out the content which he/she repeats while adding input wherever necessary.
