All anesthetic medicines have sedative effect. After anesthesia during surgery, this effect will continue for some days. This also affect uterus which become sedate. This sedation of endometrium will delay the desqumative phase of cycle. You will get periods when the effect of anesthesia will be gone.

I was scheduled for outpatient surgery on August 28th and my menstrual cycle started almost two days before the procedure. I 've always been a heavy bleeder ever since I started my menses at 11 year-olds. The duration has gone from bleeding heavy for the first 4 to5 days. Now I am 46 and still bleed heavily, but only for 3 days at the most with some spotting.
When I had my surgery in general anethesia, My husband asked "where's the bleeding?". It had stopped for a day, but only spotting.

I was wondering the same thing, I'm 3 weeks late, and like you was also supposed to start 1-3 days after surgery, which it did not, and it's now been 3 weeks, with no sign of it coming. My DR says it "may be normal" as sometimes surgery puts your body in "shock" and it takes time for organs to get back to their routine....but it's stressing me out not knowing if it's normal or if it's something else...

I had gallbladder surgery on the 15th on this Month.  I took my last birth control pill the Tuesday after, and I have yet to get my period.  Wondering the same thing, is it because of surgery and stress of the surgery/pain that is making me not get my period or did my birth control pills stop working?  I guess time will tell, but I'm nervous myself. It's good to hear that a Dr told someone above that it "may" be normal.  :)

I know this was asked a while ago, but in case there are other people who might see this like i did while researching the same thing. At the end of june i had surgery (tonsil removal) and i was due to have my period the 7th of the following month. Its now the 21st and i still have nothing, and the signs of my period coming is going away. I have researched the net for an answer and as most have said the body must be going through stress..
I just hope it comes soon!

I'm also the same as everyone else, I had my surgery on the 13th and was due to get my period on the 21st. It's now 10 days late and I'm worried, The anaesthesia should have left my body 2 days after my surgery, as it was only a 45 minute long procedure.

Hi I am just like the rest. I will be going to my doctor soon about my missing cycle. I had carpal tunnel surgery back during the Thurs. After Labor Day and my cycle has yet to appear. You want to talk about worried I'm dumbfounded. This is November and by this point I've missed at least 3 cycles. When did your cycle return? Did you go to your doctor?
