Monkey is the English-language version of a hit Japanese television series. Its dialogues were dubbed and written by David Weir. The original name of the series was Saiyuki and it ran for two seasons with 26 episodes each. The first season was screened from October 1978 to April 1979 the second season was screened from November 1979 to May 1980. The footage for both the shows was shot in northwest China and Inner Mongolia. The show, in a way, was unusual, because it was performed by Japanese actors, was shot in China and dubbed in the English language. Monkey was produced by the BBC and debuted on the British and the Australian network screens in 1979. It had 39 episodes in all.
