What Courses Do I Need To Take To Become A Elementary Teacher?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It depends on your state requirements. Each state sets their own standards and each school develops their own program. It is possible to get an emergency license to acquire a teaching position, however as a general rule you will need at least a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education if not a Master's Degree.

Some examples of courses are: Teaching of Reading, Introduction to Education, and Teaching Diversity. The best advice is to contact your local university (can be done online) and getting a copy of their Education Department Program. This will outline the courses, usually in order, needed to obtain their degree.

If you are planning to leave your state to teach, you will still need to get the degree then check with the state you are moving to to see if they accept that degree straight over, or if you need to take some additional courses, usually on local culture. If you already have a Bachelor's Degree check with the universities Education Dept about getting a Masters in Education as school districts will pay more for that degree.

Teaching is a great field to be in. Good luck to you.
