The procedures for main streaming children with special needs is not governed by Federal Regulations therefore each state has jurisdiction of this process.

The procedures for carrying out a mandate from the State to mainstream children with special needs depends upon many factors. Normally, consideration would be given to number of special needs students in a school district, which schools would be able best handle their special needs, and which schools have the personnel to care appropriately for the needs of each child.

The Superintendents of School District, School Boards, as well as Principals, Special Needs Teachers, and Life Coaches could all be involved in determining the procedures for a School district. Procedures may vary from District to District, School to School and State to State.

Parents wishing to mainstream a child, would normally begin by contacting the Superintendent or Principal of a nearby school for specific information.
