Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Sir Frederick Alfred Laker wanted to start his budget airline "Skytrain" in 1971 But budget service managed to commence service years later in 1977, when his first "Skytrain" flew on the 1st of September that year.

The initial route was from London Gatwick to New York JFK. Tickets being charged were $99 from New York to London and £59 from London to New York. Despite tremendous financial success in the first few years Laker Airlines went bust or Bankrupt by about 1982 and this resulted in the end of "Skytrain" as well.

Sir Frederick Alfred Laker was knighted the year following the successful launch of "Skytrain" for his contribution to the airline industry.
