Soft stools and mucus are also referred as diarrhea. This problem can be due to following reasons.
1. Intestinal worms and parasites
2. Bacterial and viral infection
3. Toxins
4. Pancreatic insufficiency
5. Inflammation of pancreas
6. Stress and anxiety
7. Changes in diet
There can be many other causes of mucous in the dog's stool but major causes are intestinal parasites and infection of GI tract. Ideally, your dog should get complete physical examination and some laboratory test to diagnose properly. So, take your dog to vet for this purpose.
