I am so glad that you are wanting to give blood.
Giving blood is simple and painless. It may vary slightly in different countries but this is how it works in the UK.

You can make an appointment at a donor centre or turn up at one of the many local blood donation days in public venues.

When you arrive you will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire about your health. These are very simple, routine questions. You may find that a recent medical problem or a trip abroad could prevent you from giving blood.

A nurse will then check the questionnaire with you and that everything is ok.

They will take your thumb and give it a little prick to draw a few drops of blood. This will be checked to make sure that your iron levels are ok. Once cleared you will go over to a bed.

A nurse will lay you down and make sure you are comfortable - you can choose which arm you want to use.

They will create some pressure on the arm and insert the needle. You'll barely notice! Then all you have to do is squeeze your hand and release for a little while until you have donated a full pint.

They will then take out the needle, apply some pressure to stop the bleed and put on a small bandage.

You might have just saved someones life.
