Studios release DVD's with different codes to control issues such as release dates and content for different markets. Most common are Region 1 (US and Canada) and Region 2 (Europe and Western Asia). Their 'playability' is governed by the DVD player. Most DVD players can be modified to play any region, but could invalidate warranty / manufacturer's licence agreement.

You can change the settings to work in any region now with most DVD players. I would try Region 2 but it should be compatible with either.
