Lolly is slang or a colloquial term for money. Money was called as lolly in informal terms during the 1960's. This term was very popular during that period though it is not widely used in the current times. Thus the origin of this term is not known properly but it is believed that this expression was used in a rhyming manner by linking lollipops with copper.
Another assumption is that it may have originated from the Romani word "loli" which meant red and it was a term used by the gypsies to denote copper coins and therefore money in general. Boodle, bread cabbage, dough, moolah etc are some of the other slang terms that are used for money and are therefore synonymous with lolly. It is not proper English. Often used by ruffians and is considered as street language. It was mainly used in big cities like London.
