High Ammonia levels in a new tank specially are problems. You can solve this problem by stocking 2 or 3 hardy fish like goldfish. This will enable the growth of notifying bacterial colonies. This can take 2-6 weeks. The you can stock other fish of your desire. Some chemicals are also available which can speed up the colonization of bacteria.

Ammonia poisoning is easily preventable. Avoid
adding expensive and less hardy tropical fish until the aquarium has cycled.

You can use a substance called zeolite to help absorb ammonia but the best
solution is to ensure that your aquarium has cycled and that your tank is not
overcrowded. If your tank has not yet completed the nitrogen cycle, you will
need to perform frequent partial water changes to keep the ammonia levels dow
