Bill Clinton faced the 1992 presidential elections in America and won against George Bush who stood on behalf of the Republicans and H. Ross Perot who stood as an independent candidate. The three of them received 43, 37.4 and 18.9 percent of the votes respectively. It was at one point believed that there was no way of defeating Bush.
Especially during the war when his rating was 80 percent. With a decline in the economy his popularity fell as well.
Part of the reason that Bush lost was a phrase that had helped him win earlier elections in 1988. Those were the now infamous words "Read my Lips: No New Taxes". During his term as president Bush was forced to raise taxes and this resulted in people loosing faith. It also gave his opponents the opportunity to attack his principles.
