Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Smoking affects the appearance of an individual. When people stop smoking, they usually put on weight. Smoking increases the body's rate at which calories are burned up and person's desire to eat decreases and this leads to reduction in weight so that when smokers quit an increase in appetite leads to an increase in calorie intake. Smoke contains Nicotine that produces heat and when there is heat production more calories will be consumed.

Females are more concerned about their weight and body shape than men and weight control is seen more important for females which might be the reason why female's especially young girls have started smoking a lot. This never means that you should start smoking for weight reduction. All the harmful effects of smoking should be considered in mind.

One way of reducing the weight gain after quitting smoking would be diet modification and exercise. But it has been observed commonly that such weight gain is temporary and people return to their normal weight after a few months or so. Smoking not only affects on body weight but it also affects the general appearance.  Smokers tend to be thinner than non-smokers.
