All the things you just mentioned, food, water, toys make them healthy, you can get a wheel for it to run on, and they are usually very good about keeping themselves clean. Hope this helps.

Add to that, anything he can chew on. All rodents (hamsters, mice, chinchillas, rats, rabbits) need to chew to keep their teeth, which never stop growing, ground down to a healthy length. Sticks, dowel rods, and they especially love cardboard which they can shred into bedding.
