You should answer you read the books related to the subject:-

Since you must have read at least learning alphabets during school days.

As I see it, you have two options:
1) Lie and answer with a book that people have heard of but probably not read. (Suggestions: ULYSSES, FINNEGAN'S WAKE, WAR AND PEACE, almost anything by Anthony Trollope)
2) Be honest and say you haven't read that much. Then ask the person who asked you what HIS or HER favourite books are. Use that as a starting point to start reading yourself.
You can also save yourself the embarrassment and start reading!
