If you want to measure the total or absolute amounts of Vitamin C in a drink you need to do something more sophisticated. But the experiment described below will indicate the relative amount of Vitamin C in various drinks (Ribena, orange juice, pomegrante juice, etc.)
Title: Which drink has the most Vitamin C in it?
Hypothesis: Your guess about which will have the most Vitamin C.
Materials:
You need a solution that changes colour in the presence of Vitamin C. See instructions how to make up an indicator solution here.
Use a freshly cleaned flask and pipette (or even a syringe, medicine dropper) for each run of the experiment.
Methodology:
Start with a small amount (say 20 ml) of the indicator fluid in a clean flask.
Pipette a set amount (say 1 drop=0.5ml) of the drink being tested into the indicator solution. Gently swirl the mixture.
Record how many drops you have to add before the detector solution changes from blue to clear.
Run this experiment at least three times for each type of drink being tested. Take the average value (number of drops) as your final data value for that type of drink.
The drink highest in Vitamin C will make the detector mixture lose its blue colour fastest (after the fewest drops). If the mixture hasn't turned from blue to colourless after about 100 drops, assume it never will (Vitamin C content is "very low").
