    FEMA website:www.fema.gov ;
    Approximately 90,000 square miles were hit by the storm -- in 4 separate states (roughly the size of Great Britain),  directly affecting 1.5 million people.
    State fatalities attributed to Katrina are: Louisiana, 1,067; Mississippi, 229; Florida, 14; and Alabama 2; for a total of 1,312 (from FEMA, Nov. 2005).

    So if you subtract no. Of fatalities from people directly affected, you should have your answer.

      It is well known now that 1.5 million people were affected directly by Katrina.  If you subtract the total number of fatalities, Louisiana, 1,067; Mississippi, 229; Florida, 14; and Alabama 2; for a total of 1,312, you will have your answer.

      You can find lots of additional interesting info about Katrina by looking at the FEMA.gov website.
