Would It Be A Good Idea For Blurtit To Award Points For Group Participation?
Group participation and the formation of groups probably brings as many visitors to this site as other features. Would it make sense to provide point incentives for certain kinds of participation in groups? What might that look like? How many points for what (ie posting a thread, posting a comment, joining a group, forming a group, points for attracting members, nominating other group participants for great comments or posts, etc.) What do you think-- good or bad idea?

That would be a very good idea. Another point is if anybody adds an troll on any of the groups, points should be cut off.

Maybe give points starting at 1 up to 5? Like skyadamani's idea of taking points away from trolls, but also taking away points for vulgar language or for name calling also. I also think it would be a good idea to give extra points when blurters make their point milestones - that's a big accomplishment. We need all the bells and whistles we can get!

This seems like a fine idea. To be honest, I don't pay too much attention to the points. Other users ratings mean more to me than the "participation" points.
That said, I know that other users enjoy the points aspect, so I say go for it!

INTERESTING SCREEN NAME. I DO LIKE IT VERY MUCH.♥
Thank you, I like yours!
I like the idea, would/should they be limited to member's only? I mean, in order to do something that will award points, would it have to be done by someone who has already joined the group or could "outsiders" also participate?

At the current time, one has to be a member of a group to post something in a thread.
I think yes. There is often a significant contribution made to Blurtit's information database in the group section. Probably though it would need to be non-deletable if it were to be rated or point-scored. Perhaps the group moderator could assign a 'non deletable' rating to a post, at which point Blurtit could assign points to it. The group moderator probably couldn't get points for their own posts, but I do think a group moderator should get points for doing the work of maintaining a group.

I am all for it. Might I add that I made a vow to johnlock that I would not spend any time preparing a debate until the poster of same receives points for each response rec'd. In reality the poster is actually the one who sparks an interest in a blurter to enter said debate so why not compensate for it?
