My Hcg Level Is 48, Is That Normal?

When you miscarry or have a baby you can still have a hcg pregnancy hormone in your body for a few days.  It takes a while to get back to 0.  You should have it checked again til it gets back to 0 especially before trying to get pregnant again.  Have you passed everything yet do you know?  You could still be passing some of the pregnancy tissue.  Your body will probably absorb some of it too.  A normal hcg will double every other day.  When it gets really high it may not double but it goes up fast.  A lot of people miscarry and don't know they are ever pregnant.  I have had 7 miscarriages 1 being ectopic.  I have endometriosis and I am a medical assistant so I can relate.  I am sorry for your loss.  Next time around you can get a ultrasound at 6 1/2 weeks they can check to make sure the sac is in the uterus and is the right size, they should be able to see a fetus and a heart beat around then too.  Your hcg quant has to be at least 2000 or so to see anything though.  Again it should double daily to be a healthy pregnancy.  If you are going to miscarry the doctor can not stop you from miscarrying it is just something that happens and bad timing.  You should wait at least one cycle after your hcg hits 0 to try again.  Some doctors say to wait longer but it is up to you.  You can also have the doctor prescribe prometrium-its a progesterone you take for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.  It helps keep you pregnant.  Some doctors say there is no scientific proof but it has helped me.  Good luck and take care.  Again I am sorry for your loss.
