Buddism is now considered a major world, religion has followers all around the world. There are different forms of it divided into Northern(or Tibetan Buddhism) Southern and Eastern. The iconic picture of a Buddhist monk with saffron  tunic and shaved head, given to contemplation and prayer wheels in Tibet, is the most known form of this belief, but it is practiced in a different form all over India and Asia.
The basic tenants of the belief system are that, any person who has awakened from a "sleep of ignorance" by facing reality as it is, can be called Buddha.
The Buddha, who was the one who stood out from all others was the prophet of this belief system. He taught the tenant of the holy life leading to liberation.
The practices include "the four noble truths" which are the embodiment of the faith of enlightenment .
Nirvana, or a state of great peace and enlightenment, is embodied in this. Dukkha, which is suffering is thought to be a path toward this.
If you are interested in this belief system I suggest you go to a Buddhist centre near you and investigate it more as it has more complexities and qualities than can be explained here.
