Dark brown stool color in dogs can be due to digested blood. This occur when bleeding takes place in stomach. Many conditions and diseases can cause dark colored stools/bloody stools and vomiting in dogs like foreign bodies in stomach, cancer, inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, infectious agents, bleeding disorders, metabolic diseases, side effects of some medicines, ulcer of stomach, ingestion of heavy metals, lack of blood supply to stomach etc. You should watch for other symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, pale gums, loss of appetite, loss of weight, bruising, excessive water intake and urination etc.
Differential diagnosis is done by the vet who will go for
different blood tests, urine tests, abdominal x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, and stool tests after rectal examinations. Treatment depends upon underlying cause. So, you should take your puppy to vet.
