Who Made The Most Money From The Sex Pistols?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Sex Pistols were a punk rock band formed in the late seventies; the manager of the group was Malcolm McLaren. The founding members of the band used to hang out at McLaren's trendy clothes shop managed along with Vivienne Westwood that specialized in designing clothes for theater and cinema acts.

It is assumed that McLaren who had earlier worked with the New York Dolls got the idea of forming a rock band along with an identity as reflected in the way the artists dress and perform on stage. The band comprised of Johnny Rotten (vocals), Steve Jones (guitar), Paul Cook (drums) and Glen Matlock (bass). John Simon Ritchie christened as Sid Vicious joined the band replacing Matlock; Sid Vicious though with limited musical talents was recruited as he looked the part and went with the punk image.

The group split in 1978 after touring the US with Rotten initiating legal proceedings against McLaren for refusing to pay the members their royalties as well as keeping the exclusive rights of the Sex Pistols brand to himself. Rotten won the suit after a long and drawn out court battle. It may be surmised that McLaren the manager of the group made the most money from the Sex Pistols.
