"What Is Meant By RAM"

RAM (random access memory) the computer system main memory stores the programs and data on which the computer is currently working. Like the microprocessor, a microcomputer system's RAM consists of circuits etched onto silicon –backed chips. These chips are mounted in carrier packages, just as the CPU is, and the packages are often arranged onto boards called single in-line memory modules, or SIMMs. These units plug into the system board. Ordinary RAM is often referred to as DRAM in the technical literature. This name refers to its need for regular recharging as processing takes place. During recharge, DRAM cannot be accessed by the CPU. A faster type of RAM called SRAM does not need recharging. However, SRAM chips also offer less capacity at a higher cost than DRAM. Consequently computer makes use it sparingly.

Most desktop microcomputer systems sold today have enough RAM to store a few million to several million bytes of data. Ram is volatile means, that the contents are lost forever when the computer shuts off. What's more, many computer systems allow memory expansion to remedy insufficient amounts of RAM. The other type of memory is ROM (read only memory) it's not volatile that means its data does not lost forever when the system shuts off.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. This takes a small part of memory and uses it to show the virtual view of the entire system. So we can say that there is no possibility for a user to access a computer system without RAM. Ram is the device that actually, enables a computer system to interact with a user and it will also responsible for the speed of accessing a system , and due to this it will cause an effect over the speed of processor.

Ram is used to create virtual memory in windows operating system and it will be better used with swap method in the different operating systems like LINUX

RAM is the acronym for random access memory. RAM is a volatile memory which means that when the light goes off the data written on it is removed .We can say that it is not a permanent storage of data.

It is a Semiconductor memory which can be read and written by the hard drive or central processing unit (CPU) devices. The storage locations in the RAM can be accessed in any order.

RAM is a type of memory which is used for data storage in computers, it is a type of hardware devise like ICs in which data is stored in any order, means that to store the data we don't need any rotating head or any movement of the devise.

Random means that the data at place can be retrieved quickly, and there is not any constant time,and this returning of data is not related to any physical location either far of the current track or near to the current data head,it just retrieve that data in a specific time.

While the other storage mediums like tapes ,magnetic and optical discs,these all need some method of moving head or any other to retrieve the data or writing the data.In all of these devises the head movement from one point to another take more time to move head then the data retrieval,if the physical location of the data is far from the head then it will take much more time to read the data.
