Temple Bar Gate is located in the city of London. Temple Bar is the name of the barrier that marks the westernmost extremity of the British capital. It is not clear whether this boundary is a real or an imaginary one. It is located on the road that leads to Westminster. It is at the place where Fleet Street extends towards the west and becomes the Strand. The boundary of Temple Bar Gate was demarcated by a getaway made of stone until the year 1878.

The King or Queen of England always make it a point to stop at Temple Bar before entering the city of London. It is here that the city's Lord Mayor presents the monarch the Sword of State, a memento of the city which is encrusted with pearls. This is a symbol of loyalty towards the British head of state. A statue of a dragon, known as a griffin, now sits atop the stone monument.
