    Nevis is an island which lies in the Caribbean region. . The island was given its name in the year 1493 by the very famous explorer called 'Christopher Columbus'. He felt that the clouds over the island were very similar to a snow- capped mountain. Thus he named the island Nevis, which in Spanish means "Our Lady of Snow'.

    The Island lies 350 km southeast of Puerto Rico and about 80 km west of Antigua. The total area of Nevis is 93 km². The official language of Nevis is English. Charlestown is the capital of Nevis.

    Most of the population of Nevis is of African descent. The island of Nevis also has volcanic peak at its center. Total population of Nevis Island is around 12,000. The political control of Nevis lies in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The premier of Nevis is the person who heads the administration of Nevis Island. The current premier of Nevis Island is 'Joseph Parry'. The current president of the Nevis Island Assembly is 'Marjorie Morton'.
