What Is The Use Of Latch In Computer Memory?

Answer Question

Latch basically is an electronic circuit in computers used to store information.  Latches generally comprise of a certain type of gating-mechanism, the main basic latch is the plain SR latch, where S and R symbolize set and reset.

They can be built from a couple of cross-coupled NOR logic gates. The stored bit is there on the output marked with a Q. Usually in storage mode, the S and R inputs are equally low, and feedback sustains the Q and Q outputs in a stable state. The other type of latch is the Gated D latch which some what related to the gated SR latch and can be formed in a similar manner. It is also referred to as a transparent latch, data latch or just gated latch.
