In 1801 Great Dunmow's total population was 1,828. In 1901 it was 2,704. By 1971 the population was 4,524. According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, the current population of Great Dunmow is about 7000 people.

There don't seem to be any exact figures available for the village population in 1986 - the early figures come from census information and it may be that the current estimate of population has come from the 2001 census, rather than 2006.

As 1986 lies roughly half way between 1971 and today, it may be that a reasonable estimate of the 1986 population was about 5870 people.

The only way to access more detailed information would be to consult the population listed for the village in the census returns. The exact records are closed for 100 years but it may be possible to obtain some statistical details from the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
