The moon is situated at a distance of 384,403 kilometres or 238,857 miles from earth. The diameter of moon is 3,476 kilometres or 2,106 miles. As you must know, the moon revolves and rotates around Earth at the same time. A total rotation and revolution of the moon takes 27 days, 7 hours and 43 minutes. Moon has an distinctly asymmetrical distribution of mass within itself that is what causes it to rotate.

The Apollo project was held to collect data about what lies in the interior of the moon in 1969. The first man, Neil Armstrong, to set foot on the moon's surface was followed by Edwin Aldrin for the Apollo 11 project. Radio communications were used to communicate as the sound waves do not travel because of absence of air and atmosphere.
