How Much Layena Should I Feed To 3 Chickens? Is It Ok To Feed Scrape Produce Form My Kitchen Too?

Answer Question

There are a lot of factors that will affect how much Layena you should feed your three chickens.  It depends on the season and area where you live.  Other things that can factor quantity include other food that you might be feeding the chickens.  I personally would probably avoid feeding them kitchen scraps.

I use an automatic feeder . I put out 50 pounds at a time . With the automatic feeder the hens eat what they need when they need it . Yes I feed my hens all sorts of scraps from the kitchen .

Thanks so much!! I really enjoy feeding them scraps and I want to make sure they get enough, because scraps are inconsistent, so I feed the layena(about two cups a day). They should lay their first egg any day now. I am so excited. I made them nests from shoe boxes and hay on the shelf in their coop. Do you think they need anything other than that?

I feed mine veggies(left overs) and fruits, breads(they fight over the breads and crackers)it won't hurt them and it saves sometimes on feed. I have had chickens for 10 years now and they are healthy and happy. If i didn't give my chickens my left over garden veggies i don't know what they would do. They will do fine

Chickens eat a LOT  of food, they are the garbage can of a farm. They will eat EVERYTHING even their own eggs or, at the extreme, EACH OTHER!! So it's fine to give them scrapes, i do it all the time and in this economy, it can help lower your feed bill. You also don't waste anything, plus if you have layers, your eggs can end up tasting even better. I have an egg business(and i am only 13) and i give my chicken 4 scoops of layena and 4 scoops of cracked corn to give it an even balance. Don'T give them just corn, or there feathers will turn yellowish, or only layena, because then they wont get enough nutrients. But be careful on giving roosters layena, one of mine vomits whenever he eats it, so check to be sure on yours, its quite uncommon. All I can say for now, CHOW!!:)
