I would like to get information on an inmates release date from federal prison.

Start at the Federal Prison by calling they directly and asking what do you have to do to get the release date.
This is public information, but getting it depends on the state. In Florida you can call a county jail (less than a year incarceration) and they will tell you over the phone. Longer term correctional centers may require a request in writing and your relation to the inmate (or victim). That information you can get from calling the correctional center. The State Attorney's office can also be contacted, if you have a legitimate reason for knowing - and they will usually tell you the sentence and date of inception (date the criminal actually starts serving time in the correctional institution - sometimes they spend days or even months in a temporary holding facility or jail prior to being transferred to the main center of incarceration) A victem will be advised of the exact sentencing terms and when the sentence will commence, and victims can request that they be informed of the criminal's release date, as well as any parole / probation hearings so that they may provide their input. This service is often already a part of the State Attorney's services, but victims should always find out all available services. Once again, it is public information and if the country/ state of incarceration does not provide this info easily on the phone or by writing, then you may be able to go online to the Clerk of Courts site and find the case and disposition - or order the disposition page from the case file from the Clerk in person, it will cost $5-10.
