Ammeter is the instrument used to measure current flow but if you want
to know how strong the current is then for that you need voltmeter.
Ammeter just tell you either the device has a current or not. This device is located in series with a circuit element to calculate the electric current flow through it. The meter is designed in such a way that it offers very little resistance to the current so that it does not substantially alter the circuit it is measuring. To achieve this, a little resistor is positioned in parallel with the galvanometer to force most of the current around the galvanometer
