Why Do Porcupines Have Spikes And Spines?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Basically they use it for defense. When they raise their spines they can give the illusion that they are up to twice their original size. And if that does not intimidate the predator, they can throw their spikes into the prey which either diverts their attention (giving them time to escape) or divert the enemy all together.
