Can You Suggest Some Good Theatre Books Specifically Relating To The Craft Of Acting?

Answer Question

Yes, there are some wonderful books on acting available; most are nonsense but I will suggest some, a mix of inspiring works, technique books and history or theoretical books:

The Invisible Actor - Yoshi Oida, - take the Japanese perspective on acting as given by one of Peter Brook's favourite actors.

Play-Acting - by Luke Dixon - an usual book of games and exercises

Actors turned Directors by Jon Stevens - Stevens discusses acting and directing with famous movie actors who have become directors, includes Kevin Bacon and Jodie Foster.

To the Actor - Michael Chekhov (Simon Callow intro), a very different perspective on acting, transformational.

The Stanislavski Technique: Russia by Mel Gordon, some history of the technique, and a lot of games and exercises that were used by Stanislavski and his students.

    Acting One - Professor Cohen

True and False - David Mamet, one of the only really pragmatic books on acting, scarily revealing and dangerous and subversive, this book upset a lot of the acting fraternity.
