               Mildred Wirt Benson was an author who used to write books for children and adults. Her most famous fictional book series was Nancy Drew and she was the first ghost writer to start writing those books. She wrote the Nancy Drew series under the pseudonym of Carolyn Keene.

                She wrote the Nancy Drew books from 1929 to 1947 which consists of around 23 books. Mildred Benson was born on July 10, 1905. Apart from writing books, she was a newspaper columnist for the Toledo Blade. The editor of Toledo Blade was George Benson who was the husband of Mildred Benson. She wrote a column in the Toledo Blade till the day she died. She died of a severe lung cancer and was 96 years old at the time of her death.
    She received a Special Edgar Award for her contribution to the Nancy Drew series in 2001.
