I notice you have not listed what type of PSP you have ('phat'-an original thick PSP, or a 'slim'- the newer thinner PSP), and your answer will drastically change the answer.
If you have a 'phat', there are programs you can download to convert your battery to what is called a 'Pandora's Battery'. This will allow you to use your battery to hack your (or anyone's) phat PSP.
But if you have a 'slim' PSP, things get complicated.
My advice to you is use the search engine of your choice to search for 'how to hack my PSP' you will find many resources with simple instructions for doing so.
**Please remember: While it is not illegal to modify your PSP (including hacking your firmware), it IS copyright infringement to download and play (or distribute) official PSP games without owning the original on UMD.**
