What Are The Pros And Cons Of The Crumple Zones In The Cars?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Crumble zones are designed to absorb kinetic energy and save the vehcile occupants from tremendous g-forces during decellerations caused by impacts.  Remember F=MA ?? The tiny fractions of a second involved in a wreck cause tremendous forces.  The crumble zones take up this force by slowing the deceleration times experieinced by the car occupants and greatly lower potential injuries.  Same principal is involved in an air bag deployment.

So the "pro" is that you save life and limb to the car's occupants.

The "con" is that the destruction of the car causes greater re-build cost to the wrecked vehicle.

Classic "your money or your life" scenario.  I choose life, myself.
