When Writing A Formal Paper, Should You List An Authors First And Last Name Within The Text?

Answer Question

If you are using APA formatting, an in-text citation should include only the author's last name and the year (and if it is a direct quote, also include the page number).

Thanks for the obvious answer, no disrespect, but I guess my question wasn't stated correctly. I am talking about only referring to an authors ideas or philosophy, not a citation. My thought is,that the first time I refer to an author or scholar in my paper, I should write their entire name for clarity, and any further reference I can use only the last name. Specifically when paraphrasing.
