The river Tyne is located in the North East of England. It starts at the west of Hexham. This is where the North and South Tyne join in order to form the river Tyne. The south side of this river starts at the Alston Moor, the north side starts at Kielder. The mouth of the river is on the North side while the South Shields lies on the South Side. From here the river flows into the North Sea.

During the 13th century, this was a very famous rote for export of coal. However, this trade declined in the second half of the 20th century. In the 19th and 20th century, it was a very famous place for important centers for shipyards and till today there are important shipyards at Wallsend on the north of the river and Hebburn on the south.
