The word scavenger is defined as an animal or bird which (as a matter of habit) feeds on the remains and wastes of animals and plants which are dead. Dead animals are also known as carrion. In other words, a scavenger is an animal which eats dead organisms. In most cases, the scavengers themselves do not kill the animals or plants whose remains and wastes they feed on. An example of a scavenger is a vulture.

A scavenger is also a non-sport species of fish. Scavengers can live in any source of water and can even tolerate a body of water which is polluted. The correct pronunciation of the word scavenger is the word Skav-en-jer. It is a word which has three syllables, namely the syllables skav, en and jer. The main emphasis is put on the first of the three syllables that make up the word scavenger, namely the syllable skav.

Basically its an animal, like a bird for example, who searches for and feeds on dead organic matter. Also a person who searches for discarded material. One man or womans trash is another man or womans treasure.
