A turbo-charger forces more air in to fuel/air mix and speeds up the delivery of the mixture to the combustion chamber. This extra air allows delivery of more fuel, increasing the power and torque output of the engine.
The turbocharger is driven by exhaust gasses routed thru a fan, the fan spins a compressor and compressed air is fed to the intake to mix with the fuel.
On some vehicles the air is routed thru an intercoller to reduce the temperature of that air and further increase efficiency.
The turbocharger was invented in 1905 by a Swiss engineer named Alfred Büchi.

Nassy I don't have a clue but what I do know is that I love the sound that it makes. Wow. Another thing that Ive heard about turbo's is that apparently if you don't know how to drive a Turbo driven car then you can mess up the whole engine. This is from a womans point of view that knows nothing about cars except getting into it and drive.
