Transportation in plants is carried out by vascular tissue called phloem from sink to source. This food is present in the form of sucrose in the plants. Food is transported by the process of diffusion and not transpiration because transpiration only facilitates one direction movement. For example, food is manufactured by the plants in the leaves and and the food is diffused from leaves to the roots of the plants. There are inter-cellular spaces between the cells through which the food particles move from leaves to plants and then again move from roots to leaves, when there is a food shortage in leaves and other parts of the plants. In other words, diffusion can facilitate the transportation of food to each part of the plant.
