Why Does My Car Stereo Start Smoking?

I tried to install a jvc cd car stereo into my 1996 Honda civic ex. Right away i smelled something burning , then smoke came from the top of the stereo. I disconnected it right away. I dont know where i crossed the wires,i matched red w/red yellow to yellow etc. What did i do wrong?

My cd player did the same thing. All sound cut out on cd,radio everything and all you cud hear was bass pounding away to each song. I turned it off due to smoke after a few minutes of trying to get sound back started pouring out the top and out of the disk entry. The disk smelt of burnt plastic.

Im currently stripping it down and checking all of the cables. Wen i find out what it exactly was ill post. But until then im gonna go with a dodgy wiring. I say TURN IT OFF  and leave it off lol

Sounds like a bad ground or perhaps one of your power wires were touching something else that was metal which will cause some/fire etc. Make sure to tape and cap all of the wires very well.
