Power Of Light Bulb Measured In Which Unit?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Power of anything electrical is measured in Watts. The equation for DC power is P=IE, substituting I=E/R and the equation is P=E^2/R. If E=IR is substituted then the power equation is P=I^2R which is called the Power Loss equation, but I digress. Light bulbs used in the home usually run on AC where the angle of the 60 cycle wave must be considered. The Power equation now becomes P=IEcos@ (@=theta). Cosine of theta will vary from 0 to 1 so maximum power occurs when the angle of a 60Hz wave is at 0, 180, or 360 degrees, when the cosines = 1, -1, and 1.
