There are some live proofs that says that Allan Cunningham had his literary lineage continued even after his death. Four of his sons earned great reputation in the world of literature and one of them Joseph Davey Cunningham has a book to his credit named as History of the Sikhs. The book is considered as an authoritative document in the historiography of Punjab.

The other son of him known as Peter Cunningham also earned great reputation as a writer and has several topographical publications to his credit. He also published some biographical studies and handbook of London is one of his most famous books. Another book of him also earned great reputation and is known to the world as 'The Life of Drummond of Hawthornden'. Another son Francis Cunningham also served as literary editor providing ample proof of the continuance of the literary lineage of Allan Cunningham.
